Dating back to its inaugural release in 1850, this coin holds historical significance as the first of its denomination and the most valuable currency of its time. Minted with precision, it contains. 9675 troy oz of 90.0% pure gold, qualifying for IRA contributions and portfolio investments.
900 fine gold in Extra Fine condition. Obverse Design: Lady Liberty, adorned with an inscribed tiara, is surrounded by stars (a representation of the original 13 colonies). Longacre drew inspiration for this masterpiece from ancient Greco-Roman currency. Reverse Design: Great Seal of the US- a spread-winged eagle holding a shield, a bundle of arrows, and an olive branch. Obverse & Reverse Designer: James Barton Longacre.

Series: Liberty Gold Double Eagle. The United States issued the Liberty Head double eagle, commonly called the Coronet Double Eagle, as a twenty-dollar gold coin. After a few internal disputes at the Philadelphia Mint, the double eagle was unveiled in 1850. This is now only one 1849 double eagle in storage at the Smithsonian.

The coin quickly gained popularity and was widely accepted by merchants and banks. It was in use until 1907, when the Saint-Gaudens double eagle took its place.
