Notable Features: This pin brooch was handmade during the Art Nouveau era. Composed of 18k yellow gold, the brooch consists of a large medal depicting a Grecian woman in profile. As indicated by the marking on the front of the piece, the brooch was made by Louis Rault, a renowned jeweler and medalist who was active during the Art Nouveau era. Based in Paris, Rault was well known for his gorgeous medals, many of which depicted historical figures or figures from Greco-Roman mythology. His style was quintessential of the Art Nouveau era with his work residing in museums as treasured objects in the present day.
The focal point of the medal is the image of a Greco-Roman woman made up entirely of elegant flowing and curved lines, as was the popular style during the Art Nouveau era. Her hair is piled elegantly atop her head in a bun and her shoulders only just visible. Great care was taken in crafting the image of the woman, with details like the strands of her hair and contours of her face being included.
The medal is kept in place atop a yellow gold backing with a prong setting. Completing the brooch is a pin stem with an open "c" clasp which allows it to be worn on a variety of accessorie.
