Authentic Silver Spanish Shipwreck Cob Coin, 4-reales, in Custom 14k Gold Bezel
Authentic, Antique 4-reales silver Spanish cob coin, from a shipwreck, minted in one of the Spanish Colonial mints in Latin America, most likely in Mexico, though coins from other mints were frequently lost to hurricane season as well, mints such as Lima, Potosi, etc. This denomination of this particular coin is 4-reales, the obverse of the coin features a shield image based on the "Great Shield" of Hapsburg, reverse side features the Florenzada Cross, which was used on Spanish cob coins minted in Mexico from 1572 through 1733 (though not used exclusively). The coin's bezel (frame) allows the coin to be worn as a pendant, and is custom made and fitted for this specific coin, made of solid 14k yellow gold, and is stamped "14K" on one part of the bezel's rim. The bale atop the bezel is quite sturdy and large enough to accommodate even some of the thickest chains. The chain shown in the photos is included with the coin, though it is not solid gold, the chain itself is gold-plated, not certain what base metal lies beneath, probably sterling silver but the original clasp which had the stamp has since been replaced with an unmarked one. ONLY the chain is gold-plated, the bezel is 100% solid 14k gold, and the coin itself is made entirely of silver, ranging between 92% to 98% pure. The pendant weighs almost 12 grams (thats the weight of the coin and bezel combined). The coin is held in place within the bezel with four gold prongs at the edges.
This is a really phenomenal example of actual shipwreck treasure that is already mounted and ready to be worn on a chain or necklace already. Having these custom bezels fitted, made, and assembled is always a time consuming and, above all else, a very expensive endeavor. This coin is an actual antique silver cob coin minted in the Spanish colonial Caribbean era, it was in the form of a coin already when it sank, and in the same form when found. This is NOT one of the "reproduction" or "replica treasure" coins that have now become so ubiquitous as a cheaper option for people who only care about the jewelry-look, rather than the history attached to it. See all photos, judge condition for yourself.
The denomination is 4-reales, but as for the dimensions of the coin (measurements), see photos, there is a ruler shown with the coin in numerous photos in this listing, look at the ruler in the photos and work out/judge the measurements for yourself.
