The Lucky Angel design by Augustin Dupre is often considered to be one of the most beautifully designed coins ever created. Best known to bring good luck to their owners, the Lucky Angel has a fascinating legend behind dating to the French Revolution; the coin's designer claimed to have been saved by the guillotine by the coin in his pocket. The obverse of the coin shows a standing genie writing a new French constitution into a blank book that is lurched on a stone pedestal. To the right of the book is a gallic rooster facing leftward towards the angel. The words "Republique Francaise" are inscribed above the winged angel. The reverse is inscribed around the top with the words " LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ ", fundamental core values of French society. In the center is a circular wreath design that contains the face value and year-date of minting. The mint mark of "A" on the bottom of the reverse is the indication that these coins were produced at the Paris Mint.
