Obverse: Features the famed design by Augustus Saint-Gaudens of Lady Liberty walking against the sun's rays with the Capitol building located on the bottom left, while holding a torch in her right hand and olive branch in her left hand. Reverse: Designed by sculptor Miley Busiek, features a design of a nest of American bald eagles. The male eagle on the left carries the olive branch in its talons to the female eagle on the right and their young hatchling.
Offered in Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) Condition. First introduced in 1986 alongside its silver cousin (the American Eagle Silver), the Eagle Gold contains 1/10 Troy oz. Of Pure Gold but weighs 0.109 Troy oz. This is due to hardening metal alloys used in the minting of the coin to protect it from wear and tear, which makes it tougher than a M1 Abrams tank in its third combat year! This additional metal content reduces the overall purity of the total weight of the coin to 22kt, or 91.67% pure.
Within the Precious Metal industry, this level of hardness is often referred to as Crown Gold. The remaining metal content is approximately 5.33% copper and 3% silver. Along with the nest of eagles design, the reverse side of the coin features inscriptions of the Latin phrase "E Pluribus Unum" meaning "In God We Trust", along with country, weight, purity, and denomination.
